Gujarati Dal



This tasty dal belongs to Archana's who blogs at Archana's Kitchen

Ingredients

1 cup cooked red gram dal
1 medium size tomato chopped into small pieces
1 green chilli
1 tsp ginger paste
Salt to taste
1 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp red chilli powder
1/4 tsp asafoetida
1 tsp skinned groundnuts
2 tsp lemon juice
A bit of jaggery

To temper
1 tsp oil
1/2 tsp cumin seeds
1/2 tsp mustard seeds
A piece of cinnamon
Few curry leaves

To garnish
Finely chopped coriander leaves


Heat oil, add the tempering and when it splutters add the turmeric powder, tomato, red chilli powder, asafoetida and cook till tomato is soft.

Add the cooked and mashed dal,green chilli, ginger paste, salt, jaggery, peanuts and some water and cook for five minutes. Add the lemon juice and mix well.

Garnish with finely chopped coriander leaves and serve with hot rotis or rice.

lovely that you made Gujarti Dal EC.
you madei t perfectly , "a bit of Jaggery" , - that is exactly differentiates it from other version of dals .
We amde it for all our meals in Gujarat. just a thing is we normally make it much thiner not much thick . thats the way we make it and like it too .
