Hot Crispy Jalebis

Ingredients (Translation)

1 cup Maida
1/2 tsp baking powder
1 1/2 tsp Rice flour
1/2 cup Curd
Oil to fry
Lemon Yellow Colour-a pinch

For sugar syrup

1 1/2 cup Sugar
3/4 cup Water

Mix maida, baking powder, rice flour, lemon yellow colour and curd well. The batter should be of drop-down consistency. If required add little water.

Make a cone using some thick plastic sheet like that of milk covers.

Mix the sugar and water and heat it to get a sticky syrup.

Add the batter to the cone and make jalebis directly in hot oil.

Turn to get golden brown colour on both sides. Remove and directly put it into the sugar syrup and let it soak in it for about a minute.

Remove and serve hot.

It tastes good even with a scoop of icecream.

WHen I moved to Estero 3 years ago my, 3yr old son wanted Jalebi every day. There are no indian stores nearby to get Garam garam jalebis. SO I had to learn to make it. I tried many recipes. But this sounds easy . Need to try it soon.

they look great!!
but you say "mix the batter in the syrup"...is that a typo? b'coz i thought just fry the jalebis with the batter, no sugar, then put them in sugar syrup...

@ Shriya, Manasi, Pravs... do try it out

@ Sirisha, Pooja, Asha, Rajitha, Madhu, Dhana - thanks for ur comments

@ Laavanya, Mocha ... its really easy to make jalebis...only thing is to practice on getting the right shape.

@ Mansi...you are absolutely right, thanks for pointing out the mistake...i actually meant it as 'add it to the cone'. We fry the jalebis and then soak in sugar syrup.

@ Namratha ... u surely can have the entire plate dear.
