Palak ka salaan


This recipe is from Nita Mehta's Mughlai Vegetarian Khana book with changes to suit our taste buds.

Ingredients

1/2 cup bengalgram dal
2 cups chopped spinach (palak)
1 onion chopped
1 medium tomato chopped
1/2 tsp ginger paste
1 tsp garam masala powder
1/2 tsp red chilli powder
Salt to taste

Soak the dal for 1/2 hour. Pressure cook it till soft.

Heat oil, add onions. Fry for a minute and add the tomatoes. Cook till tomatoes are soft and add the rest of the ingredients except dal. Add some water and cook till palak is soft and done. Mash half of the cooked dal. Add the dal to the cooked spinach and mix well. Cook for 2 more minutes.

Serve with hot rice/rotis.

I love Nita Mehta's books, I almost always change the recipes to suit our tastes as well. Salan looks so delicious! :)

Ginger and garam masala must add lots flavor and aroma to the dish... Healthy and nutritious dish... Dish is calling out protein too loud...
